What is Uveitis?
Uveitis is one common type of eye inflammation. It affects the middle layer of tissue in the eye wall called the uvea. This layer, the uvea, has many blood vessels that nourish the eye. Uveitis can damage important tissues of eye, leading to permanent vision loss.
The most important thing to remember about uveitis is that it is episodic in nature; an attack of worsening followed by a period of getting better and coming back again after some time. Thus, the treatment of uveitis may require patience, understanding, and regular follow-up visits.
Treating doctors may not always know the cause of uveitis, as in some cases. Since uveitis is often related to systemic diseases, the doctor may conduct multiple tests including physical exam, blood tests, Xrays, skin tests etc. Revealing all the major or minor ailments to the doctor may help in finding the cause of uveitis correctly.
