What precautions to take after LASIK surgery?

Lasik surgery is one of the popular laser refractive processes used to treat vision problems. LASIK is an abbreviation for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.

How is Lasik surgery performed?

The average time for the LASIK procedure is 30 minutes or less. You spend the process lying on your back in a recliner. Medical drugs are given if needed.

Doctors use a device to keep your eyelids open after placing numbing drops in your eye.

Before cutting the corneal flap, a suction ring will be put on your eye. This may create pressure and produce a slight blurring of vision.

Then the eye surgeon removes a little hinged flap from the front of your eye using a tiny blade or cutting laser. Your doctor will then reach the area of your cornea that has to be reshaped by folding back the flap. Some part of your cornea is then reshaped using a preset laser

A very small quantity of corneal tissue is eliminated with each laser pulse. The surgeon repositions the flap after shaping the cornea. Usually, the flap heals without needing sutures.

You’ll be instructed to concentrate on a point of light during the procedure. You can keep your eye fixed while the laser reshapes your cornea by focusing on this light. As your corneal tissue is being removed by the laser, you can notice a unique odour. Some people claim to have smelled something that smells like burned hair.

Doctors will often perform LASIK surgery on both of your eyes on the same day if you require it.

At Iksha Eyecare, we have the best Lasik surgeons in Mumbai with tons of experience overall.

Following are a few precautions and aftercare for LASIK surgery

  • Take a nap for a few hours right after the procedure

After your Lasik operation, your doctor advises you to relax for a few hours. Getting some rest or sleeping helps ease the discomfort and hasten your recuperation.

  • Take the medications exactly as directed

You must use the eye drops as directed after the procedure. Your doctor may advise using lubricating eye drops or artificial tears to soothe discomfort as well as antibiotic and steroid eye drops to treat infection and inflammation. Even if your eyes are not dry, lubricating eye drops must be used. To avoid problems like infection and flap dislodging, use eye drops as directed.

  • Do not rub your eyes

Your hinged flap is folded back during the Lasik procedure in order to access the cornea, and it is then quickly and painlessly replaced. If you rub or touch your eyes, the corneal flap might get dislodged and cause serious problems. So, for at least two weeks following the procedure, refrain from touching your eye.

  • Don’t drive

Following surgery, your doctor advises you not to drive for at least two days. But occasionally, you can be told to refrain from driving for extended stretches of time. Any foreign particle can create discomfort and may require additional care.

  • Consult your eye doctor for updates

To be sure that the healing process is going according to plan, you must attend all the follow-up appointments that the doctor has planned. Visit your ophthalmologist then if any discomfort develops before any planned appointment.

By taking all of these precautions, you can guarantee that your recovery will go smoothly and without any issues. LASIK is a sophisticated procedure that calls for expertise. When it comes to eyes, nothing less than the best will do.
